Dominique Hume reports from the England women’s football training camp in La Manga: Monday

by Dominique Hume, Sports Journalism student

The England team didn’t arrive until Monday afternoon, but it was straight to work for the team and us students who were on the trip.

Annie Ottey, a final year sports scientist student received a tour of the facilities at the team hotel and picked the brains of Naomi Datson, the Head of Exercise Sport for the England women’s team.

Rachel Kent, a sports scientist undertaking her masters degree in sports psychology had the honour of interviewing coach and manager Hope Powell about her preparations for the world cup and why La Manga is so important to the team.

2nd year sports coaching student Hannah Griffiths and myself listened in to the interview with Hope and also arranged an interview with Arsenal and England captain Faye White and established England player, Katie Chapman to ask questions on sports coaching (Hannah) and life in America (me).

The hard work really starts tomorrow however, when the team starts training twice a day.

The students’ trip to La Manga was funded by UEL’s Going Global Bursary
