This month’s gym challenge is an incremental hill climb which will test your muscular endurance and lactate threshold. The challenge will involve a progressive hill climb in which participants will have to maintain a constant speed. Failure to maintain this speed as the resistance increases will end the challenge. The longer you climb the higher you score.
Training for this challenge could include high repetitions at a moderate weight to improve muscular endurance. Specific exercises include squats, leg press, lunges, leg extensions and leg curls. Alternatively try Fartlek training on a bike, this involves sprint cycling on a high resistance for as long as possible followed by a slower and lighter recovery period and then repeat.
