UEL’s Netball 1st team took to SportsDock for their ninth league game of the season where they faced Imperial College London 4th.
The first period was very competitive due to a couple of defensive errors by both sides in the early goings, however UEL’s GS, Jules Lawly was clinical from short range, using her imposing height advantage wisely establishing an 8-7 lead. The pace was still high as we reached the end of the first period, however UEL seemed to be in control and tightened up their defence and finished the first quarter with a 14-8 lead.
Imperial College came out for the second period very fast and seemingly on a mission. The away team managed to net four points in the opening five minutes, where the scores came to 15-12. UEL started to wake as WA Shannon Cummins’ tireless work ethic and link up play with Danielle Carruthers and Stacy Smith set up Jules Lawly consistently to stretch the score to 20-14. However, a busy end to the period from the away side, narrowed the gap to 25-21 as we reached the half way stage.
As we entered the third quarter, UEL decided to switch things around. GS, Jules Lawly swapped to GK to use her height advantage on the defensive end. The home team stretched its lead to 36-27. As we reached the last period, Jules lawly went back upfront sharing points with GA, Stacy Smith as UEL’s significant fitness and sharpness levels seemed to be the difference, romping to a 51-38 win.
